Jean R. McFarland, Ph.D.

Dr. McFarland’s expertise is in cross-cultural communication and managerial development. She has taught intercultural management and communication at the graduate level for the Universities of Minnesota and St. Thomas and has consulted for them as well. Other clients across a wide range of industries include the University of California-Berkeley, Northwest Airlines, The St. Paul Companies, Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Toyota North America Headquarters, General Mills and others.

Dr. McFarland’s work includes culturally preparing employees to live in foreign countries; to adjust to living in their home culture when they return from international assignments; or in the case of foreign nationals, to live in the United States. Dr. McFarland also works with foreign-owned and other multicultural corporations within the U.S. to interpret cultural differences so they can be leveraged to corporate advantage. She has traveled widely for business and study during the last 20 years, experiencing the cultures of 50 nations.

Mr. McFarland has 30 years of experience in international trade, sales, marketing, and strategic planning. He works extensively with European companies interested in developing marketing and sales strategies for United States markets, and with domestic companies desiring to market abroad. He also works with domestic companies on marketing and general management issues. Of particular interest to Mr. McFarland is development of counter-trade opportunities with foreign organizations.
